PETTERSEN´S ART

Pettersen’s Art

The art of Carmen L. Pettersen has been well known for six decades in Guatemala.  More than 500  examples of her work are held in private collections.  Her signature collection, Maya of Guatemala, is on exhibit at the Museo Ixchel de Traje Indígena in Guatemala City.

Watercolor landscape painting was Pettersen´s favorite theme.  She was also an excellent painter of portraits and florals in watercolor.  Her life work included oil painting and pen and inks.  Her work has been exhibited in London, Chicago, Bogota and Guatemala.

The Foundation cares for the Maya de Guatemala Collection as well as Pettersen´s personal property, including her art materials, and a significant archive of documentation and photography of her life and times.

Exhibitions

The Foundation´s Maya de Guatemala Collection is on loan to the Museo Ixchel de Traje Indígena.  The Foundation´s Conservator is working with the Museum to update and upgrade the exhibit format.
